We understand that a
few of you have been checking in with us recently. Thanks
for reading...we appreciate it and we're always glad to hear
from you! Now, you may be wondering "what on earth are
they still doing in Grand Haven?" (and rightly so!). Well,
we've been doing some low-key visiting and finally just
relaxing. No more shopping for all the things we now
need to jam in the car and bring back to Mexico for the condos,
no more rushing to parades and fireworks, no more driving all
over the state to visit our awesome friends and family.
We have really
enjoyed all of our visits (after all, it's why we come!):
Scott's family up at Torch Lake, Caroline's sister Jen and her
husband Ivan in the Detroit area and her aunt Nancy, who was
visiting in Grand Haven (great to see you Nancy, but too
short!), Scott's parents in Dexter, Chris and Jacque in East
Lansing and Sean and Lindsay in Chelsea. But it's been
great spending the past week
just...hanging...out...and...doing...nothing!
So, what have we
really been doing here, you ask? I know, I know; most
people (and Scott may be included in this category! haha) would
die of boredom sitting around GH for this long. Well,
Caroline is insistent on reliving the summer vacations of her
youth, which included being so under-occupied that it would
appear as complete and utter boredom to the casual observer.
However...it has been so wonderful skipping off to the beach
whenever the mood strikes. The lake water's cooled off a
bit, but that didn't stop us from going in after roasting on our
beach towel like rotisserie chickens. And we've finally
picked up our tennis rackets again after a three-year hiatus and
have been having fun working on our tennis game...everyday (but
jeez we're getting old - Caroline has sustained wrist and foot
injuries while Scott has a case of tennis elbow!). We take
walks on the boardwalk and the beach and the pier, enjoying the
beautiful West Michigan sunsets that rival those in Mexico.
We stop in at Caroline's favorite breakfast spot, the
Morningstar Cafe, for the delicious flavored coffee and, after a
leisurely meal, we still have time to browse the aisles of the
wonderful independently owned bookstore next store. We've
hiked the trails to the beach at the beautiful new Rosy
Mound Nature Area. We stroll down Washington street,
window shopping in the pleasant touristy shops. We enjoyed
a drink and a meal at a pleasant sidewalk table at the Dee-Lite
while watching the passersby, who are simply on vacation and
have to return home next week - pity them! And we even had
bloody Marys on the beachfront deck at the Bil-Mar after a
grueling round of tennis one day (they were Bil-Marvelous, as
they say!).
Some may call it
boring, but (at least to Caroline) Grand Haven is a truly
wonderful place to just "be." |
