Our SMA friend Wendy offered to take us on a tour of the nearby
colonial town of Guanajuato, where she had lived for three
months a couple of years ago. Like San Miguel, Guanajuato
is a Spanish colonial mining town steeped in history. But,
unlike San Miguel, this university town has a young, vibrant
feel to it. The buildings, streets, and shops also seems
very European, more so than SMA. Wendy and her Guanajuato
friend Victor showed us around for a few hours before heading
back home before dark (shouldn't be driving those un-lit Mexican
roads after dark... too many cows, dogs, burros, and Mexican
families wandering the roads!). It was a nice taste of
Guanajuato, and I'm sure we'll take our upcoming guests there
for a visit to see something a little different. |
