A tour of Montgomery,
a cookout with Chad and Dawn |
|
|
Leaving Lafayette, we decided to take a quick drive through the
Acadia area of Louisiana on our way to Montgomery. A quick
tour of the quaint and quiet downtown of New Iberia was all we
had time for, then it was off to Alabama (with yet another
outlet shopping experience along the way, this time in Gulfport,
Mississippi). We can now confidently tell you that
downtown Montgomery is veeery tranquil at 8am on a Saturday
morning. Which was fine for us, since we could park where
we wanted to and walk down the middle of the streets if our
hearts desired. The lack of businesses (restaurants, bars,
shopping) made it look like the the town isn't all that bustling
on any day of the week. But the capitol city buildings
were very stately, and we got to take our picture in front of
the 'first confederate white house' before hitting the road for
Georgia to visit our friends Chad and Dawn (and Jacob & Barkley,
of course). Always great to see those guys, they're a
large part of the reason we didn't take the most direct route
from Mexico to Michigan. Jacob was only 4 weeks last time
we saw him, and is walking much faster and talking much clearer
now that he's 19 months... and a lot of fun to play ball with
(any sphere will do). After Jacob's bedtime, the
pig-out... I mean, cookout ensued, delicious brochettes and
tasty dessert platters, and lots of Chad's now famous homemade
sangria. Already looking forward to the next time we'll
have to pass through Georgia. |
